Developed with regulation in mind, our certified products offer solutions to customers who are are subjected to emissions taxation and tariffing or have otherwise have been unable to access the Voluntary Carbon credit markets.
Carbon removals and offsets depend on the use case. When added to soil or materials, every ton of biocarbon sequesters between 2-3 tCO2e, with durability of the carbon shown to last over 1000 years. When used as a fuel or reductant in steelmaking as a replacement for traditional coal or coke, we offer hard to abate industries a renewable source of chemical energy that has a zero-emission rating at our facility gate. This enables our customers access to a variety offsets and tax credits, ensuring the long term financial viability of the core industries that are vital to our economies.
Karmanterra is proud to be the first U.S. based company to achieve certification under the Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) for its biocarbon. The SBP certification is recognized as an approved compliance scheme for the EU RED(Renewable Energy Directive) so when REDII-compliant biomass is used, directCO2 emissions from combustion are reported as zero, helping companies offset their emissions profile in compliance with EU ETS rules.

This foundation paves the way for truly renewable product and provides flexibility with ongoing changes and updates to carbon schemas globally. We are also well positioned for forthcoming schemas like the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) as well as a variety of other compliance systems and frameworks.
When biochar is integrated into the soil or directly into a material like cement, it creates the opportunity for permanent Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR). Ultimately these activities produce credits that can be accessed via the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM). Our biochar is produced per Puro and Vera methodologies and can be used efficiently for CORC generation.
